As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on an incredible year of milestones, achievements, and growth. This year has truly been one to remember!
In April, we were honoured to receive the Australian Small Business Champion Award for Business Consultancy, a national recognition that we are so proud to hold. October brought another highlight as we hosted a well-received Small Business Month event in Quirindi, bringing our regional business community together to share ideas and insights. We are thrilled to share that we have been named finalists at both the HRD Awards and the Women in Small Business Champion Awards for 2024. To cap off this incredible year, we secured a national win at the prestigious AHRI Awards last Friday!
As always, it has been our privilege to support you with all things people, and we look forward to continuing to help your businesses thrive in 2025. Please note that our office will close on Friday, 20 December 2024, and will reopen on Monday, 6 January 2025.
Reminder: Working on Public Holidays
With the Christmas New Year period quickly approaching, it’s important to understand your obligations when employees work on public holidays. Here’s what you need to know:
There are three public holidays during the Christmas New Year period—25 December 2024, 26 December 2024, and 1 January 2025—followed by the Australia Day public holiday on 27 January 2025.
Public Holiday Pay: Permanent employees are entitled to their base pay for ordinary hours if they would typically work on a public holiday, even if they don’t work that day. This doesn’t include penalties or overtime.
Requests to Work: You can request employees to work on a public holiday, but the request must be reasonable. Similarly, employees can refuse if they have reasonable grounds.
Additional Pay: If employees work on a public holiday, they are usually entitled to additional remuneration, such as penalty rates or possibly overtime rates.
